Education makes a difference

As responsible citizens we can no longer claim ignorance for the effects of toxic and hazardous pollutants which are a necessary by-product of our much needed manufacturing production processes. Let's face it- we all want and need goods. And, these goods will come with an environmental price until we develop some way to do away with waste chemicals, either in the form of air pollution, water pollution or waste pollution. That day may never come!

So, in the mean time, it is essential to evaluate the costs of the generation, handling and disposal of these wastes on the bottom line. For instance, every drum of waste chemicals generated cost raw material dollars and also costs for disposal. Further, it costs in man-hours to manage the generation, handling and disposal of chemical wastes.

In addition, environmental laws tip the balance even further by requiring cradle to grave liability, meaning you are liable for the cost of cleanup at the disposal site even if you thought you were doing the "right thing". Lastly, if you think you are too busy to pay attention to your companies' environmental programs and their ramifications, read the headlines,"Executives are sentenced to jail, and companies can pay enormous fines!"
